Matej Mihelčič – CEO & Founder

Twinstar, based in Ljubljana, Slovenia, Europe, was founded in 2021. While the company itself is young, my journey in astronomy began much earlier, during my primary school years. Over the decades, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with leading companies worldwide. One of the most memorable partnerships was with ZWO, where I contributed as a beta tester, designer, and marketing promoter, playing a small but meaningful role in the development of several ZWO products.

Locally, I have actively promoted astronomy through organizing events such as the Messier Marathon and various observation gatherings. Since 2013, I have been an editor and collaborator with Spika, Slovenia’s premier astronomy magazine, helping to educate and inspire astronomy enthusiasts across the country. My efforts also extend to supporting schools, universities, and individuals in diving deeper into astronomy—whether through observing, astrophotography, image processing, observatory construction, or remote observing.

I am particularly proud of my role as the visionary and technical guide behind the GOChile project, which provides students with access to cutting-edge astronomical research by enabling remote observation of the night skies in the Atacama Desert, Chile.

In 2021, I channeled my passion and experience into founding Twinstar. Initially focused on dealing with astronomy equipment, Twinstar soon evolved into a company dedicated to developing innovative solutions for the astronomy community. Today, our team comprises five highly skilled experts with deep knowledge of astronomy and various technical disciplines. Together, we are committed to creating professional-grade, affordable products tailored to meet the needs of amateur astronomers, universities, and research initiatives.

Although we are still a small manufacturing company, our ambitions are immense. By prioritizing direct relationships with our customers and bypassing traditional dealer networks, we ensure your needs are understood and addressed personally.
