Description
Advantages over German Equatorial Mounts
-
No counterweights needed → less inertia & faster movements
-
No meridian flip → zero downtime during imaging
-
No guider recalibration or field rotation
-
No pier collisions → safer for remote observatories
Innovative Adjustable Carbon-Fiber Fork Arms
Our adjustable carbon-fiber fork arms make OTA changes simple, fast, and secure. Easily switch between smaller and larger telescopes—or mount multiple OTAs simultaneously.
Benefits:
-
Extremely high strength & load capacity
-
Lightweight carbon-fiber construction (lower shipping costs)
-
Sleek, modern design
-
Future-ready modularity
Smart, strong, and stylish — built for serious astronomers.
100% Made & Assembled in Slovenia (EU)
The Watusi 150 is fully designed, produced, and assembled in Slovenia, Europe.
Every component is crafted locally to ensure the highest precision, durability, and long-term reliability in demanding astronomical environments.
Applications – What Is the Watusi 150 Best For?
Although built as a high-end astrophotography mount, the Watusi 150 also excels for advanced visual observing thanks to its comfortable eyepiece positions.
Ideal for:
✨ Astrophotography without meridian flip interruptions
🔭 Serious scientific astronomy & research
🏫 Universities, schools, and astronomy society observatories
🛰️ Asteroid, exoplanet, and satellite tracking
⚡ High-speed slewing with zero-backlash friction drive
Telescope Compatibility
Unlike traditional fork mounts limited to one OTA, the Watusi 150 is extremely flexible.
-
Standard Losmandy D-style interface
-
Adjustable fork arms for OTAs from 20 cm to 80 cm (larger on request)
-
Payload capacity: up to 150 kg
-
Perfect for: RC, MC, SC, CDK, RASA, Epsilon-style astrographs
-
Excellent for multi-OTA arrays (e.g., 4 × RASA setups)
Note: Extremely large refractors are not recommended.
Tracking Precision
Our advanced friction-drive system delivers 0.5 arcsecond tracking accuracy, sustained indefinitely with minimal deviation — all without encoders. This ensures maximum reliability and minimal maintenance.
An optional high-precision encoder upgrade is in development, enabling even higher accuracy for the most demanding users.
Integrated Cable Management & Electronics
We eliminated the cable nightmare common in pro-level setups.
The Watusi 150 includes:
-
12V DC power distribution
-
USB 3.0 hub built into the Losmandy adapter
-
Internal cable routing through both fork arms
Power and control up to 8 devices (cameras, focusers, filter wheels, heaters, ASIAIR, etc.) with one single power cable running up the mount.
Software compatibility:
✔ ASCOM (NINA, Voyager, MaximDL, PHD2, Stellarium, etc.)
✔ INDI platform
✔ Fully integrated mount control electronics
Homing Sensors
In case of power loss or position errors, the Watusi 150 automatically returns to its default park position.
With the companion app, you can remotely reset to home and continue observing seamlessly.
